Haut Tec: SaaS Insights from Scio Consulting

SaaS Metrics – SaaSoNomics 101 by Michael Dunham

Of the 23 articles we have written for Haut Tec – this one has been the most popular so far. We credit that to both how important the subject is and to how little has been put forward about the metrics that can be used to guide a successful SaaS business. Because of that interest, we’re going to follow up this article with the next installment this month.  So – to get up to speed - take a few minutes to join us in this investigation of the data points you need…

Social Marketing: The Value of Crowds by Michael Dunham

This article is number two on our “hit parade” and it continues to generate more interest. Social marketing is a fast growing field, but for those who have not taken the plunge it often sounds like another hype cycle. For Internet entrepreneurs, it is a critical subject to understand and leverage. Take a page from our experience.

Best of SaaS: Industry Insights We Read

Cisco Tiptoes Into the Cloud by Andrew Conroy-Murray of Information Week

It has been difficult for the best-known enterprise brands to move to the “cloud” model and there are few more instructive cases than that of the very company that provides the underpinnings for most of the Internet. Microsoft, SAP and Oracle are also struggling to adjust to the dynamic market changes we’re seeing now. Newer and smaller companies have less legacy and more opportunity than ever before.

Non-standard Paas – The Software Industry’s Rubber Stamp by Sinclair Schuller of Apprenda

Our partners at Apprenda stepped back from the recent shutdown of Coghead and looked at the larger implications of some of the new development “stacks” being offered by Platform as a Service (PaaS) vendors.  Platforms can and should be of great value to SaaS developers, but with so many choices, some logic needs to be put into the discussion. This article and our own take on this subject are a good basis for getting your arms around this important technology.

Above the Clouds: A Berkeley View of Cloud Computing

This academic study from UC Berkeley generated a lot of buzz in the past month. One of the most considered and thoughtful came from the GoGrid Blog by Michael Sheehan. The two articles together form useful bookends to the issues and promise of our industry.
